Anyone knows about Career training opportunities for someone who has only graduated HS and no college/ in NYC? Hello! I'm talking to a friend who's 23 years old, the highest education he has is a high school diploma, I'm currently looking forwards to college but in his case we're talking about his life and working 12 hours at a supermarket is something he wishes he would have thought about before deciding not to continue with his education... When you've worked for years on 7 dollars an hour you eventually do regret things...I want to encourage him to find out about programs that can offer him something that pays better and that may be enjoyed by him. We live in NYC and I was talking to him about career training programs that are short, I don't know if I may be right but I've heard about these programs I just can't recall one in specific, I know there are things out there for Security guard, computers, assistants on different levels, etc. Does anyone know what places here in NY offer training?
What career would be good after graduation? I like doing hair(number one career choice) but i don't think i can make it into a house on my own.id rather do it later on in the future.i like the idea of massage therapy but i really don't know about it either.i like more things dealing with getting my hands into it.BUT i don't want to go to college.a career training program is more in my path.i want to be successful but in doing something i will enjoy.any career suggestions in mind?

how does a 27yo in th UK go about undertaking a vocational training programme to change career? i have mainly been working in hospitality and retail but i really don't enjoy it. actually i hate it. i would like to get into electrical installation/engineering, refrigeration/air conditioning engineering or plumbing. i'm confident i have the practical and intellectual ability to achieve this but i need to find an opportunity to train and get experience. it seems like opportunities for a 27yo are far fewer than somebody a little younger, how can i overcome this?
I'm a single mother and need some career training...? I'm a single mother who wants to have a job that can be done during school hours. Which of these would you suggest doing and why? I would be attending a community college for the first 4 and a for-profit school for the last. I am already a CNA. Some people have suggest nursing or medical assisting. Those are good careers, however there are no RN/LPN/MA training programs available to me. Medical Office Billing and Coding certificate Hospital Billing and Coding certificate Medical Records certificate Medical Office Administration certificate Phlebotomy
What do you think is a better career choice? Im taking medical terminology this semester and im two weeks from being done (thru a career training program called ROP). I want to be a Nurse and the first step thru Rop is to take the CNA course which is one semester. However, I was comparing the skills you learn between CNA and Clinical Medical Assistant (Which is also offered thru ROP) and it seems theres more hands on skills taught thru that course, compared to CNA which is more labor than anything else.Should I take MA first than CNA next semester or should i even take MA at all?

How do I get Search and Rescue career training? How do you get into the search and rescue career? I've been doing some research on education and programs but haven't come across anything promising yet. So far the only schooling I've found is through the Canadian Forces (I'm from Canada). Is that the only way to get proper training? That doesn't seem right. If it is, is it worth joining the CF? And there's also this thing called NASAR. I think it's American but would someone be able to explain it to me. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Sallie Mae Career Training Loan-Need an expert familiar with this type of loan? I am an older student returning to school. I am beginning a practical nursing program in August at my local community college (Northern Virginia Comm College). I already have a bachelors degree. This is a continuing education, non degree program, so I didn't apply for standard student loans. I applied for a Sallie Mae private loan, one called "Career Training" and is specifically for students in continuing education or vocational/training programs, non credit. I was approved, but Sallie Mae said they needed my school to certify the loan. Now my school refuses, saying that they don't certify these types of loans. I am confused, since my school was in the drop down menu for Sallie Mae, and I was already approved. They tell me they only need the school to verify that I am in fact a student, and the amount that I requested is valid. My school made me fill out a FAFSA, then said I wasn't eligible for loans because I'd taken out $35K for my bachelors degree ten years ago (and am currently in repayment with Stafford). Today, I spoke with a financial aid counselor who lectured me on why I can't have this private loan, that my GPA of 2.9 isn't high enough to qualify me for financial aid, and that I will just have to come up with my $11K in tuition (due in a few weeks) on my own. He said that even though Sallie Mae is a private loan, it's still based on my GPA. I am so confused. First of all, my GPA is just fine. But secondly, I didn't want to do federal loans, and I was under the impression that this Sallie Mae was a private loan, not GPA based (can't find that anywhere under eligibility in the fine print), and I cannot for the life of me figure out why my school won't certify the loan. Is anyone familiar with this type of Sallie Mae loan, and able to help me with my next steps since the school doesn't seem inclined to help me? Oh, and one last thing...they are only using my GPA for medical classes I've taken in the last year at their school...they are not counting my college GPA or even my high school GPA, both of which were high since I graduated hs in three years and then got an almost full academic scholarship for my four years of college. Thank you very much.
How do employers look at career training certificate's? I'm considering doing a 300 hour program thur my local college for medical billing and coding, but I have been told by several different people employers aren't impressed and its hard to find a job in that field with just this certificate. Is it really worth my money to do this career training, will I be about to get a job?
Aid to help pay for private school career training? I am currently unemployed and receiving UB . I want to go to a private Dental Assisting training class. At this time I can not pay the tuition out of pocket. Are there any programs out there to help me pay for all or some of my tuition? I live in North Carolina. PS The school offers no financial assistance at this time.
Career training sallie mae loan disbursment? To me or to the school? I just got approved for a career training loan. Will it be disbursed to ME or the school? The school does not have a financial aid program or office. Thanks! 9 hours ago - 3 days left to answer.

A career path question for pilots fresh from their training. What to do next? For example, a pilot trainee completes a 250 hour flight training program. What can he/she do to earn hours in order to be accepted in the airlines? If he/she chooses to be a in a charter, will he/she eligible without ratings of the aircraft in that company? Or the company would provide a self-sponsored flight training for that applicant? Thank you very much.
would like someone's rating of career quest training centers? I am in Lansing, MI. I answrd an ad under employment & now have an appt. at Career Quest Training Center. Would like some honest reviews of any in this area that have gone through any of their programs, especially medical billing. Was the training good, was it worth the money (irregardless of financial aid) and have you been able to find suitable employment afterwards, and how long did it take to get employment? Am interested in reviews of them in general, but especially in my area.

I recently viewed this site that offers a program where after completion you can build a career typing articles for websites and earning money while doing so. The program is inexpensive and sounds too good to be true of course. So, I was wondering if anyone can give me insight to this, especially anyone who has actually enrolled and completed the program. Thanks, Christina.

Is college or career training a money-making scheme? Why do career programs, colleges, universities, do it this way: At the age of 18, when you have little life experience to go by, you are supposed to decide upon a career or job you THINK you might like, then you enroll in a school, pay all this money to attend, you learn about the career in THEORY by taking Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology etc., then at the end of your schooling, you finally get to actually TRY the job or career itself by doing an internship or practicum, but by that time you might have figured out that it's not for you. You do this with only 18 years of experience of being on this earth which mainly included sitting in a public classroom since kindergarten, and hanging out with your friends, and doing sports. Why don't we allow people to try working in the field FIRST, and then if they like it, they can enroll in school. Dear Watson, Yes, that may be the case for fields like medicine, but what about Human Resources Management or something like it where you don't learn a technical skill or craft?

do you get more federal funding for going to a community college than you would a career training school? I have been checking into schools that have a nursing program. Since it has been almost 20 years since graduating high school, finding the best rout, and finding a way to afford it has been hard. there just doesn't seem to be much in the way of pale grants for middle aged people unless their single and have a bunch of kids. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Alternatives to traditional colleges? (Training/Certification Programs, etc.)? Hey, do any of you know of any jobs or career paths to get into that doesnt involve your prototype 4-year traditional college route? Where can I go to earn credit and career training? Okay. Now I'm a 15 yr. old freshman, turning to be a sophomore next year in high school. So, I want to start my career training right now over my summer vacation. I want to take a course in Computer programming and Computer security at a community college. I live in Lilburn, Gerogia. What are Army Reserve Officer Training Corps career options? Can i transfer to active duty officer afterward? My recruiter said I should join the reserves and go to school while completing the ROTC program. However many officer jobs (aviation interests me especially) are only offered to active duty officers. Can I change to an active duty officer once I finish ROTC? If not, what are my options as a reserve officer? Also what is a good major to enhance my military officer career? I know political science is a good all around one as well as math.
Is Olympia Career Training Institute a good school? I'm interested in going to their Grand Rapids campus. Is it true that their programs do not take long to complete? And is it expensive?
When should I apply for financial aid for a career training school? I am taking an entry test on Monday for a career training school fast track program. If I pass the test, which I know I will, the total cost of tuition is required to be paid to hold my place. I don't HAVE to pay it then, but I might not be able to get enrolled in the class if I don't pay in full. (class only holds 10 people and 5 are already signed up). The cost is $1660. Do I apply for financial aid now? Do I wait until I take the entry test? Are there any federal grants for this? What happens in the case that I do apply now, before I take the test, I get approved, but I fail the test. Do I still have to get the money and pay it back even though I can't use it?

ADVANCED CAREER TRAINING IN JACKSONVILLE, FL? I am looking at going to Advanced Career Training on Phillips Highway in Jacksonville, FL for the Medical Assistant program. Is it a good school?
Helicopter Pilot training Grants? Can anyone point me into a direction to seek grants for pilot training (rotorcraft)? I have a Sallie Mae career training loan but was only given 30k of the 50k I need. I am a working adult in a career training program but not degree program, so FAFSA is not really an option. Thanks in advance for any information. I did look into that, but to get into helicopter training for military (Army) you have to enter warrant officer school. With that you have to be under 30 and have 60 credit hours of college. I am 32 and have 45 hours.
When personal/fitness training as a career, what program (ACE. NFPT, AFAA etc) stands out among the rest? Personal Trainer Certification I’ve decided to pursue personal/fitness training as a career, and I am in the process of choosing a certification program. I’ve done a bit of research and found several articles on the subject, but I’m still not sure which certification is right for me. I’d like some help sorting through my options. The ideal answer will weigh the pros and cons of the programs I’ve listed below, and possibly include the programs I’ve left out (such as Cooper or NFPT).
Military training programs for Teens? I'm currently 15 and I've thought about pursuing career in the military. Is it possible to start training as a teenager? If so, Whats the minimum age requirement. I am willing to join any branch except the Navy and Air Force.

Sterile Processing Technician - training in Orange County, California? I am very interested in this career, but have found no training programs in my area. Anyone know of any training for Sterile Processing in Orange County, California? Thanks so much!
I moved for new career with training to be provided. No training is really going to happen. What should I do? I moved 2000 miles for a job with an associate of nearly 10 years. The job is a new field for me field incl. electrical design, wiring, and programming of all sorts of industrial control systems. This requires many classes and a few years of being an apprentice. All the classes related to what I am to be doing were going to be provided along with 2 to 3 years in an apprenticeship. Well, business seemed to be slow and none of the training has happened. I've been doing pretty much unskilled stuff for the first year and suddenly I'm expected to perform this job. I haven't even been working with the person who I was supposed to train with and eventually replace. It's a small company and the boss won't talk about training now. He "blows up" when I ask about it. He's now saying that I claimed to have all the experience and knowledge. I didn't even apply for the job. He called me and I moved back from California to the mid-west for this. How do get out of this without being the bad guy?
I recently attended a seminar on how to get a government job. They had where you could pay a certain amount.. You could pay a certain amount down and some a month it was about $900 for the whole program but they would let you pay a small amount down and some a month. What would occur is you give your information then they send you study things in the mail after an amount of time they would tell you where to take your test. It was like a career training program in the government. At the time i couldn't do it but i was wondering if anyone knows about this and what it may be called? Any info on how to get a hold of them about this opprotunity would be greatly appreciated!
What is the training program like for someone who wants to be a medical technician or doctor in the Military? Is personal training a bad career choice at this time? Help!? Hi. I am soon approaching 50 (but don't look it) and am interested in enrolling into a personal training program. How can I get into the Air Force Officers Training Program? I am planning on serving four years in the Air Force upon my graduation from college in December. Although I have a 3.3 cum GPA and have been very active throughout my college career, my recruiter tells me that my psychology major makes me an unlikely candidate for the Officers Training Program. Is there anything I can do to change this? Is there something that he is not telling me?
Has anyone attended olympia career training in grand rapids,mi? It's now called everest institute. Yea or Nay? I'm thinking of going into the practical nursing program and am just wondering if there are any grads from that program or others that can speak about the staff, program, or the rate of obtaining a job. I also want to know if the school is viewed by employers in MI and outside of the state as a "real" training institute. Thanks!
Online vet tech training -- are there any good programs out there? I am ready to enroll in an online vet tech program. I want the info mainly for my own knowledge and use as a dog/cat/bird owner / dog breeder and dog rescuer, not so much as to prepare for a career because I am semi-retired from a business career. Animals are my passion now, and I just want to learn as much as I can without going back to college to prepare for another career. Any suggestions or experience with online vet tech programs? So far I've only contacted and researched Penn Foster. Thanks for any feedback you may have that will help me make a good decision with my time and money on the line.
What is the best way to re-train for a career in computer programming? I would like to train in software development / internet design. I have already dabbled with VB, SQL and HTML. What is the best way to get qualified, (courses / from books). What qualifications to go for? Degrees or Microsoft Exams etc and which? Sorry there are a lot of questions here, but when starting out there are so many languages, courses etc on offer, that it is hard to know where to begin, and what employers are after. Any help would be greatly appreciated together with perhaps how you got into the profession, what you specialise in, and how you got qualified. Thanks in advance!!
Career suggestions? Hi, I am currently looking to make a career transition. I am in my 30's and have been in the performing arts for a number of years. I am not looking for a "button up" office job. Waitering or retail is an option of which I am aware. I am seeking suggestions for a longer term type creative career or training program. Thanks so much. I live in NYC, by the way.

Career training loans, bad credit, cosigners, sahms...Help? I am a stay-at-home mom wanting to go to school as a Medical Assistant. The school recommends a career training loan through Sallie Mae. It's a fairly small loan, just $2,400. The school told me, for this program, I cannot get regular financial assistance, like applying for FAFSA. Since I don't have a job, my first obvious choice for a cosigner would be my husband, but I'm not completely sure that we would qualify for the loan considering our financial background. My second choice would be my parents, who live on the other side of the country (though I'd prefer to do this without them). Would I be able to apply with my husband first, then if I don't qualify, apply again with my parents? What would be the best approach for my situation? I have already contacted Sallie Mae but cannot get a real person to speak with. I have also contacted the school, but they can't give me any definite answers. Thanks for your help!

Maybe a career training or something else... but I really need some tips & links for that. BTW: I'd love to join a program like "work and travel" or a camera crew as an assistant... or study somewhere... :?? Thank you for your help!
Real Estate training programs ? I just recently considered real estate as a career change. I was contacted by PMZ real estate agent to take their online and classroom courses for $280. Is this beneficial for beginners? Has anyone taken these courses through PMZ?
Help me put this question to bed (Career Training )? Are there any programs, services, grants or any kind of financial assistance to people who want to go to career school but cant afford it. Thanks
What kind of construction career can I get without going to college? Are there union training programs available and what do they cost? What are my chances of getting in?

Anyone training to be or has begun a career as a Fighter Pilot please help me out!? Next year I will be at a normal 4-year university and I want to rush and be in a frat when I am there. I also want to be a fighter pilot, but that will come after graduating from college and the PLC Marine summer program to become an officer. What is the main thing that kept you on track in college and how did you keep your grades up while doing these things? My question is pretty wide-based so any answers will be helpful!
Is their any programs that assist minorities in a career change at the age of 50 ? Am a college graduate with little developed skills and would like to be trained.
How was your training at ATP flight academy? I'm seriously considering ATP flight academy. I'm think I'm too old (30 going on 31 in Dec) to wait much longer so I decided on accelerated school. I understand the pro's / cons. I'm thinking about getting my PPL at a FBO in the mean time. How was your schedule for the career program??? Did the instructors know enough to teach you? Did many of your peers pass/fail? What kind of flight experience did you have prior to the program? Would you reccomend it to a friend?
I want a career in medicine but I don't want to go through over 10 years of school and training.? I'm not good at the subjects you need to become a doctor or a nurse (chemistry, math, physics, psychology, etc...) but I want a career in medical field. What are some good, rewarding medical careers that don't require a monster academic program?? Any suggestions are fine but if there is someone in particular who is an EMT or a surgical technologist (or anything similar) that could recommend their career would be more helpful. Thanks so much!
Does anyone out there know how hard is the Warrent Officer Flight Training Program in the Army is? I'm 32 and in decent shape, and I need a career change. If I see anymore data cable I'm going to flip out. I never been much of a runner but I can jog in a group for a few miles. So I'm wondering if I'll be in way to over my head with all the 8 week weight loss program. Plus the secondary physically intensive schools that I will have to attend.
I have free career training! What to do with it?!? Hey all heres my situation. I got laid off in the fall and am currently on ei, living in ontario, canada. Recently I got qualified for the governments "second career" retraining program. It provides up to 28000 dollars in funding for retraining in an industry thats in demand. All you have to do to recieve the grant is to provide evidence that your new career path is in demand. So at first I wanted to get my 3 year degree in Animation at the local college where I am, but im like everyone else and am in a squeeze, so I need some short term training instead. Me and my g/f cant both go to college together, so im letting her go and I would like to use this funding instead to get training in something thats high paying and I can get into quick. So heres my question............What is the best possible training for a high paying job that I could get in the short term (over the summer or less than a year)? I have 28000 in my pocket and I would like to take advantage of it as best as possible. I was looking into getting a crane operator license or something because I like to drive machinery like that, heavy equipment also. But I want something that REALLY utilizes the whole amount of money I have been given, instead of a few grand. Whats a really expensive license that I could get? Or any other kind of training? Any help would be really appreciated, thx
Schneider Drivers Please Respond! Is Schneider a good way to start a truck driving career? Do you feel that there training program is good & thorough enough? I know the pay is a bit low to start since they train you. Do you like driving for them? Are they a good company and a good way to get started driving? What is like on the road for days at a time. What is like living in your rig & eating mostly at rest stops? Any tips for a beginner? Please tell me!!
Educational grants for career training? Hi, This is probably a lost cause but I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me. In the fall I would like to take this language course to become certified to teach EFL. I wanted to teach English overseas, so I did some research and the first step is to get certified. I looked into some programs and found out that the two premier programs are the Cambridge CELTA and the Trinity TESOL certificate... Trinity college in London runs the place, and they accepted me... the problem is money. The school isn't able to offer financial aid, and "regular" student loans and scholarships don't apply. I work full time (I'm a teacher now) but school is out for the summer and I am at the end of my rope. I want to do this so badly, but I need the money and I have exhausted all my ideas for finding it. I am looking into getting a part-time job as well. What I would like to know is, are there any grants out there that would apply to my situation? 1 day ago - 2 days left to answer. Additional Details 1 day ago What I meant to say is, I would like to know if there any grants that I might be eligible for? Are there are any grants that would apply to my situation? The program is abroad, and I'll be leaving in November... I did some research and there is such a thing as a career development loan, but you have to be a UK citizen because the British consul offers it... I'm not sure if the US government offers such a thing. If you can help me THANK YOU!!! :D Antonio! Go practice!! Ay que testarudo!!
where can i get the information for Aeronautical career? i am electrical engineer. i want to focus my career towards Aerospace Field. Is there any higher studies or training programs so that i can get a career in Aerospace field.
Is getting a career before "officially" going to college a bad idea? Since the cost of college tuition is getting pretty damn ridiculous, and I did not want to end up paying off loans for the rest of my life, I decided that I wanted to go into a Nursing program at a local community college - so that I would have a manner of paying for school when I decided to begin my education on a large scale. I found it somewhat disturbing when I discovered, then, that some institutions would not allow you to transfer and continue with your education if you had the equivalent of two years of college work under your belt. The Nursing program that I am now enrolled in is exactly two years, and I'm wondering whether or not I will not be allowed to continue at a better university because of this. I know that I should probably be asking people at the schools that I'm interested in, but I wanted to inquire first whether or not there was a blanket policy regarding whether career training courses counted toward transfer credits that would not be "allowed" at universities.
I am considering a career as a medical technologist. Can you give me the pros and cons of this profession? I have Bachelor's in Psychology and Business Admin. The jobs I've had so far have been low paying customer service type stuff. Though this could be because I live in Lakeland, FL. I was pre-med at UF and so I've taken classes in Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Statistics, Anatomy and Physiology. I decided against med school since I don't like to deal with people and their problems, but I'm interested in medical research. But I want a job that allows me to have a fair amount of physical motion. Being a factory worker in an automobile manufacturing plant sounds good to me. In other words, I don't want to be in a cubicle and tied down to a phone all day. I don't want to work standard business hours due to my insomnia I have a hard time showing up to work at 8 am. The local hospital has different shifts available for medical technologist. I would have to go through a training program and get licensed. Can you tell me whether this is the right profession for me?
Are private career training colleges any good? Can you step out of one of their programs and get a decent job? If so, which ones in Canada are decent? I've been hearing alot of bad about CDI college and not enough about the Academy of Learning. lol Thanks in advance. Canada
What schools in the PA-NJ-DE area have good programs that train for ultrasound technician careers? Just thought I'd ask this for one of my younger cousins, in case she doesn't know about Yahoo's Q & A. Now that I think of it, the schools don't have to be only based in PA-NJ-DE. If there's a good national school with this program, let me know and I'll look into their locations. Thanks.
