Are Private Career Colleges OK for short courses?

Are these schools ok if I only wanna take short term courses on how to do certain computer programs? (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Dreamweaver, Macromedia Flash, Photoshop, etc...) Its not like I'm gonna take an entire "degree" or "diploma" because I've heard alot of bad press on them and stories of people spending $10000 but not being worth it... I'm thinking of going into them because I have a Full Time data entry job that is night shift. (2-10 pm) These PCCs offer courses during the day while the community colleges offer them only during the night or only if I register with a FULL TIME program that involves them. Do these PCCs teach good? Will I actually LEARN ANYTHING from them? Any good PCCs you reccomend?

  1. You could probably get as much out of just buying the software and learning from the help section of the program. Then you would own the program too and be able to practice. Macromedia also offers courses regionally as well. If you lack confidence in this school, then don't go there. Talk to former students if you want real honest feedback. What are the credentials of the teachers? Also, you get out of school what you put into it, so be ready to work your butt off to get real value out of any program.
  2. I attended two different ones. The first for CAD. I didn't know that much about computers then, but he didn't act very enthused, but neither did the students. The second was for nursing, I learned so much more than I did at the community college. But they were different teachers too. What I learned about going back to college was, A teacher can make you or break you. Just depends on how good the teacher and how much you are willing to learn.
