Colorado Technical University

Where can I check the accreditation of an online university?

Particularly Colorado Technical University. And is it normal for the financial aid department to ask for your past 2 years taxes?

  1. Proper accreditation can mean the difference between a degree that gets you a new job and a certificate that isn't worth the paper it's printed on. If you have the right tools, you can check any school's accreditation status in less than a minute. Here's how: Here's How: 1. Go to the U.S. Department of Education's College Search page http://distancelearn.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=distancelearn&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ope.ed.gov%2Faccreditation%2FSearch.asp 2. Enter in the name of the online school you would like to research. You do not need to enter information in any other field. Hit "search." 3. You will be shown a school or several schools that match your search criteria. Click on the school you are looking for. 4. The selected school's accreditation information will appear. Make sure this page is about the correct school by comparing the website, phone number, and address information you see at the top right with the information you already have. You can view the college's institutional accreditation (for the whole school) or specialized accreditation (for departments within the school) on this page. Click on any accrediting agency for more information.
  2. The best place to check out any business is The Better Business Bureau's website, www.bbb.org. As for Colorado Tech Univ it is a member of the BBB and you can find info on it at this link: http://search.bbb.org/Results.aspx?url=www.coloradotech.edu Also, here is the link for Colorado Tech Univ's accredidation info from the US Dept of Education: http://www.ope.ed.gov/accreditation/InstDetail.asp And yes it is normal for the Financial Aid office to request you tax forms from 2 years ago. Infact, its standard. And if you still live at home they may also ask for the tax info of your parents. This is how they look into all your finances and see if you are eligable for financial aid.
