How long does it typically take to complete a doctoral degree?
I just got admission into Columbia University's Ed.D.C.T program with specialty in Math Education. I currently work full-time as a professor at a local college. I am trying to determine whether to go full-time or part-time, and how long it would take to complete the degree through each option.

- It depends on how many classes you take.
- First, congratulations. Secondly, it should take at least three years for full-time study.I am not sure how long it takes through the part-time study. The link below such provide you with the information you require.
- Check out their website. It's a six year program, including the final year of dissertation advising (meaning they're including in those six years one year to write the dissertation). Do they even allow part-time study? You might want to inquire. If they do, it seems reasonable to deduce that about twelve years would be the time frame for part-time study. And keep in mind that Ph.D. students often take more than a year to finish their dissertations, so their 6-year plan could easily stretch into 7 for a typical student.
