How long does it typically take to complete a doctoral degree?

I just got admission into Columbia University's Ed.D.C.T program with specialty in Math Education. I currently work full-time as a professor at a local college. I am trying to determine whether to go full-time or part-time, and how long it would take to complete the degree through each option.

  1. It depends on how many classes you take.
  2. First, congratulations. Secondly, it should take at least three years for full-time study.I am not sure how long it takes through the part-time study. The link below such provide you with the information you require.
  3. Check out their website. It's a six year program, including the final year of dissertation advising (meaning they're including in those six years one year to write the dissertation). Do they even allow part-time study? You might want to inquire. If they do, it seems reasonable to deduce that about twelve years would be the time frame for part-time study. And keep in mind that Ph.D. students often take more than a year to finish their dissertations, so their 6-year plan could easily stretch into 7 for a typical student.
