What is the difference between a bachelors, associates, masters and doctoral degree, and which is better?

Public Comments

  1. Associates is 2 years of study, mostly a trade school degree. bachelors is standard 4 year degree, such as engineer or accountant Masters is 2 years of study beyond Bachelors, includes MBA Doctoral is beyond masters and most prestigious.
  2. Phd>M (S or A)>B (S or A)>A A=2 years B=4 years M=6 years Phd=8 years. Usually.
  3. The type of degree depends on the job. Associates is generally only 2 years, while a Bachelors is 4 years. A Masters can be that or an MBA. If you are trying to be a teacher, you generally need at least a Bachelors. A auto mechanic usually only goes for an assocaites. It just depends on you and the job you are trying for.
  4. An associates degree is awarded when the requirements are completed, usually two years. A bachelors is the one earned in four years. A masters takes another two, sometimes longer because it involves the research and writing of a paper called a thesis. A doctorate take another three to five and involved the research and writing of a book-length paper called a dissertation. Law degrees and medical degrees are types of doctorates. Anyone who's earned a doctorate has earned the right to be addressed as Dr. Smith or whatever, regardless of the field. That's why so many medical doctors prefer Robert Smith, M.D. to Dr. Robert Smith.
  5. associates is a 2 year degree bachelors is a 4 year degree masters is a bachelors +2 years doctoral depends on what kind of field. this question depends on what you want to be exactly. usually most people can get by just fine on a bachelors and a lot of companies only require a 4 year degree. i think you need to decide what it is you want to go to college for and go from there. once you figure that out, you can even call some of the places you're thinking about working at and ask they what kind of degree they require.
  6. associates is 2 years bachelors is 4 years masters is another 2 years after bachelors PHD is another 2 years after a masters. PHD would be better. Though you can only be as picky as your options. Only the top 20% from high get into college. Of those maybe the top 25% will get a B.S. degree. Of those 25% can get into grad school.
  7. An associates degree is two years, a bachelor is four years, a masters is two years in graduate school after your bachelor degree, and a doctoral will be four years of grad school (so eight total) and get you a Ph.D. As to which is better, that all depends on what you want to do with your life. If you want to be an electrician, you want a two year degree, a high school teacher a four year degree, and if you want to be a doctor, you want a Ph.D. It all depends on what you want your career to be. The most education you have, the higher the income you will most likely have also. However, this depends on what you study. If you have a Ph.D in history you may end up busing tables for a living. There are only so many university jobs. Find out what you want to do for a living, research the training needed for it, and then tailor your education around that.
