How long does it take to complete a doctoral program in a non-science field?

For example, a doctorate in communications or philosophy?

1. In Australia (since I have no idea where you are), we have set time limits. Now, at least at the University of Sydney, you must complete a PhD in 4 years full time or 8 years part time, no ifs or buts. If you fail to complete in that time, then they don't care.
