How Hard Is It To Get Accepted To A Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program?

Not at a top university, just an average one.

  1. Not very unless you want to go to a top skool. But you better be prepared to eat, sleep, and live at the skool during your doctoral program experience. It is a 24/7 job for a few years.
  2. No. He left that up to His followers to do-- to spread the good news/the gospel.
  3. It is extremely hard to get into a PhD program in clinical psychology. "Average" programs accept approximately 4-7% of applicants - as such, it is harder to get into clinical psychology programs than it is to get into medical school. PsyD programs are somewhat easier to get into but are not funded as often as PhD programs are and PsyD students often have a harder time getting approved internships and passing the licensing exam. If you're interested in being a therapist, getting an MSW is a much better option for most people. 4. It's tough, regardless of how "average" of a university it is. The acceptance rates are 6-13 people out of a hundred or more applicants. Keep your GPA as high as possible, get good GRE scores, get research/clinical experience, and have good letters of recommendation. Apply to at least 10 schools to maximize your chances of getting in. I know people with 4.0 GPAs that got turned down. Psy.D programs are easier to get into though, if you don't mind going into that. I've heard mixed things about psy.d's having a harder time getting licensed and getting approved internships. I'm in a Psy.D program, but my classmate got an internship at Yale. I think you have to work hard to distinguish yourself and make the most out of your education if you go the Psy.D route. I don't know how it is in other places, but Psy.D's and Ph.D's work side by side in my town.
