Business Administration=Management?

The university I plan to go doesn't suggest a BA in Business Administration, unlike private schools in my country that are too expensive. The university offers a bachelor degree in Management - the courses are basically the same as Business Administration but the name is different. It makes me not want to go through with this, do the same as Business Administration students and get less recognition for it because my country calls it "Management". Am I right? Please, any knowledge you have might help. The university, however, offers MBA to Management grads. I plan to get a second Business Administration degree in the United States and I'm worried that "BA in Management" won't quality/count or won't be "prestigious" enough. Am I right? Can any Americans help me out on this one? Thanks in advance.

  1. that's understandable, all you have to do is explain the degree specifically to the interviewers when you want to apply for their company. tell them that the degree is technically business administration & they'll surely understand. getting a MBA is the best idea after you get your BA. besides, what's other choices do you have? i you don't want to put up with it, what would you do? with the MBA your previous degree won't even matter. best of luck
  2. No -- it doesn't matter. In fact, the best undergraduate business school in the world (The Wharton School at U of Pennsylvania) does not grant its undergraduates a degree in Business Administration (they get a BS in Economics). Most universities outside the US offer a degree in Commerce rather than Business Administration. But if your real concern is getting into a good MBA program in the US, then I can assure you that the degree does not matter. There were people in my MBA class at Duke with a bachelor's degree in fine arts. The top schools make a point of having a diverse group of students. The quality of your undergraduate school does matter. If you are not going to one of the best universities in your home country, it will be extremely difficult for you to get into a highly regarded MBA program in the US.
  3. What's in a name ? Go to your dictionary. Look up the words " Administration" and " Management " .Are there any tangible differences ? Having been through the process the degree made little difference. The person who earned the degree, who excelled in his work, who handled himself well in the interview was the candidate for hire. My degree was in Industrial Management. My friend was a Business Administration major. We were both hired by the same company on the same day for similar positions, his in the front office mine at the Division level at Ford Motor Co.
