Is indian school of business management & administration, Thane properly recognised to conduct MBA Courses?

I came across the website (www.isbm.org.in) of this Organisation and they offer MBA, Doctorate level programs for both Indian & International students. I know that only Universities are authorized to offer degree level courses. Also only courses offered by universities approved by Distance Education Council are valid. But these people just literally sell the education with offers like: Complete the MBA/Doctorate courses within 6 months We send you the question and answer papers to your home, you fill it and send back, we give you the certificates which you like. Now, my questions are, Are they really recognized to offer degree level courses? Even if recognized, is it right to sell the education like this? What will be the education standard of those students who buy those certificates? Will it affect the employability of the students who really spend Huge money and their most valuable time for traditional classroom education?

  1. I know that only Universities are authorized to offer degree level courses. I'm not a legal expert, but I think the UGC Act only specifies that only universities can award the first degree, meaning Bachelor's degrees. This is the reason why such B-schools can offer MBA and research programmes and they cant offer BBA programs (IIPM does offer BBA programs of a certain European university, I think) Basically the reason why such B-schools exist is because of a demand-supply equation. Government university MBA seats are not enough for the whole population, which is another reason why private B-schools have come into existence and offer quality management education to those who want it. And in most cases, Government universities syllabus is outdated and pathetic, which is another reason why a lot of management education seekers prefer private B-schools. Not everybody can afford ICFAI, which is another reason why the distance education courses of such autonomous institutions are in demand. If they didnt have any students, they would soon be forced to close shop anyway. Will it affect the employability of the students who really spend huge money and their most valuable time for traditional classroom education? I dont think so. University graduates are a whole different breed altogether. There are some quality B-schools like Indian School of Business, Hyderabad ; Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai etc that are better than universities, but the list is limited to 20 or so top institutions. The value hierarchy would be as follows: Top 20 B-schools(highest value)-> Universities-> Private B-schools(Ieast value)
