Why hasn't Division I-A football added a playoff system yet?

Why are we still forced to watch these crap bowls on TV? Is anyone here interested in watching the Meineke Car Care Bowl , or some bowl between "Northern Alabama" and "Southern Ohio"? Here's a question : Which would you rather see? A 16-team bracket , march madness style , with the 16 best ranked teams competing for the national championship , or a bunch of exhibition games that don't mean anything unless the letters BCS are attached to it. You can make the claims that athletes need time for academics , but Division I-AA and I-AAA teams have a playoff too and I don't hear them complaining about their grades or finals , do you? So there is BASICALLY NO REASON why there shouldn't be a playoff. There has got to be one of you deluded individuals that thinks for some reason the BCS is "good" , that we should keep this corrupted trash system , and there shouldn't be a playoff , hence the reason this question is asked. I'd like to hear the other side of the story as to why we should keep BCS.

1. good question but i think that it is because it would be hard for college footbal teams to play 4 games(if they were to go all the way). Even then we would still hear complaining by one schoo or another

3. well. i hear your complaints, and no, I would not be mad if they changed the system. my only concern is that a playoff system would mean that the games late in the season would be meaningless. also, in a lot of situations, the last games of the season do dictate who will play for the championship, ohio state and michigan had championship implications. a team needs to play their conference, play it well, and hope that they impressed. also, if their was a 16 team bracket, then a lot of schools that would be included in a bowl, however obscure it may be, would be shut out, and it would be all about the big programs. their are something like 116 teams in division 1, its good to give schools a bowl game, where they get to travel, and enjoy that experience.
4. A 16-team bracket would be impossible. That would take about another month or two. However, I would like to see a 4-team bracket with the 4 best teams.
5. They keep it cause of the money issue. I know a 16 team tourney would be too long how about a top 10 or even a top 8 and let the rest of the schools have like an NIT tourney or something or just let them have their bowls. The BCS needs to drop the C cause thats all it is BS.
6. In response to the one comment already made, it wouldn't be impossible to have a 16 team playoff. Division I-AA and the other ones all use a 16 team playoff to decide a champion. The only changes that would need to be made would probably be a cut in the number of games (no more 12 game seasons) and the elimination of conference championship games. The main reason is that bowl revenue is a huge chunk of cash that would be gone if they went to a playoff system. Also, in response to the poster of the question: I-AAA doesn't have a playoff system in place because I-AAA is the classification for non-football playing Division I teams.
7. This question has been kicked around for years and nobody admits to an answer. There was a meeting that the A.D.'s said to make a play off system the season would have to cut back to 8 games for the season,this to have a 12 to 16 team play off.This would not work. Then there was money.The transportation cost was going to be high since the plans were last minute.This included rooms,flights and othere transportation.To make the proper amount of money on this indevor the per game tickets would be 3 to 4 times the normal cost of a bowl game. The idea was tabled then swept under the carpet.
