Is personal training a bad career choice at this time? Help!?

Hi. I am soon approaching 50 (but don't look it) and am interested in enrolling into a personal training program. Do you think that I will be wasting my money and time? Can I make a living doing this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Have a nice day.

  1. There has been a dramatic decline in health club memberships where I live, because many people no longer have the extra money to spend. I've also seen some of the clubs cut way back on group classes, and a couple of them cut the classes altogether. And you may be thinking of your own business and private sessions, but of course you have to get some experience first. If this is really important to you, start researching. I do think you can probably still make a living at it in certain markets, but you are going to have to do your homework to find out which ones. If you currently live in an area where people do not place a lot of emphasis on fitness, you are likely going to need to move to one where people do.
  2. I think you should think about what jobs are a necessity to people. If times are hard, will a personal trainer be the first to go for some people? I guess rich people will always have money even during hard times, so if you were to go into this field I would make sure that where you live rich people are a plenty and need a good trainer! Good luck!
