Looking for a new career, But don't know what. Can you help please?
I currently work in a shop and am looking for a career with a reasonable salary. I am willing to train! Do you have any suggestions? Lemme know what the job entails too! Thank you in advance!

- If you're really not sure what you want to do it's always a good idea to start with a skills assessment (similar to the one that you can take at learndirect.org) so that you can see what sort of jobs interest you and which don't. If you're in the UK you could also try your local careers office or the careers section in your local library to give you an idea. Friends and family are also good to get advice and guidance as they know you and know whether or not you would suit a certain type of job (eg if you like working outdoors or would go crazy sat at a desk all day). If you have any particular ambitions then I would suggest speaking to the relevant professional body (eg association or society) and find out what they suggest.
- The first thing you have to do is evaluate your interests and strengths. It isn't enough just to find a job that pays well. If you hate it, your life will be miserable. Once you make a list of your interests and strengths, think of careers that use those. Maybe even ask around or back here. After you get a list of possible careers, you can go to http://www.bls.gov/oco/ and find the outlook for various careers, including education requirements, job requirements and environment, present average income levels nationwide, and forecasted projections for growth in the field. If what you want to do requires additional education, check out the possibilities. I thought there was no way in the world I would or could go back to school. But ultimately I discovered I had no earning potential without it, and I'm now in school full time with financial aid. I didn't think it was possible. Good luck!
