I can't decide where to work as a police officer in Canada or to leave Canada and need career advice.?
I'm almost 25 years old and I exceed all of the requirements at most police department in Canada. However, I do not know which department in Canada to apply to or even if I should stay in Canada. ( I was offered a job in the Caribbean as a police officer.) Where I live currently, police employment would not be an option so I have to move, but I don't know where. I have a BA and MA in criminal justice, various United Nations diplomas, a police science diploma, and a private investigaton diploma. I also have 3 years army reserves training in infantry. I am a qualified advanced medical first responder. I have volunteered part-time at various organizations for over 6 years. I am looking for a police department where I could utilize my education and experience while having fun (ie: SWAT, sniper, etc) without having to wait 5 years as a basic patrol officer. Any suggestions or advice would be helpful.

- Join the US Air Force. With your academic credentials, you could easily become an Air Policeman with Officer rank. After one hitch, you could use your Vet's preference to become a Sky Marshall and start piling up those Frequent Flyer Miles.
- Apply in Toronto, there is Toronto Police, York Regional Police, Durham Regional Police, Peel Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police. You can get your ATS testing done and apply to all of the above agencies as well as ones further away (Waterloo, Hamiltion, Kingston, Barrie etc.) Toronto would be your best bet as you can join special units after 3 years. Remember your first year is all training anyway, so really it's only two years. DO NOT go to the US!!!!!! They don't pay their Officers there nearly enough and when you find out that Canadian Police Officers are making twice as much money, you'll find out that US qualifications are not accepted in Canada and if you want to return you'll have to start from scratch. Come to Toronto, there is a lot more to chose from.
