What is the difference between Division 1 and Division 2 colleges?
What classifies if a school will be d1 or d2? How come tiny schools can still be d1? Is it academics? Athletics? a mixture?

- size does matter
- It is not academics. It is athletics. That being said -- there are very few high quality schools in Division 2. The best universities tend to be Division 1 or Division 3 (e.g., MIT is division 3). There are also lots of bad colleges in Division 1. You can read more about Division 1 at the link below.
- Fan Attendence has toobe at a certain level, over the course of a certain amount of years for you to qualify for a certain division.
- well it all depends on what type of school it is...d2 schools are sometimes as good as d1 schools but maybe the size is too small or they don't have enough money or a strong program but it is really up to the college to decide that...and academics don't have a huge difference for example the university of chicago and johns hopkins are top schools but they are both division 3 schools (johns hopkins has d1 lax but otherwise it is d3) hope it helps =]
- It is a matter of athletics. D1 schools also have the ability to offer better scholarships to the athletes. There are specific requirements for academics, number of teams, etc etc etc.......
