Can there be such thing as a post-doctoral degree? Or is it just advanced research?

I heard of post-doctoral research and its academic study. And I know that post-doctoral research involves having at least a doctorate degree. Isn't a doctorate degree the highest level of education that is received in any university?

  1. A postdoc is a position, not a degree. It's a 1-5 year research appointment (typically 2-3 years on average). It's a job.
  2. Every research that takes place by someone who is already a PhD holder, is a post-doctoral research. There is not any degree for that. It would be useless. The PhD is the highest degree one can achieve.
