What education/experience would help someone move up in the grocery store business/corporation?
I have a friend who wanted me to ask this online since he doesn't have Internet. He works as a cashier right now and was thinking about possibly pursuing a career in the grocery store business, but wants to move his way up. He wants to move up past the usual cashier/manager positions and wants to make it up to corporate business; I think that's what he wants me to find out about. He wants to know what type of education and experience fields he needs to get to put on a resume. Does anyone have any practical advice?

- I met quite a few folks from the grocery store industry in my MBA classes. It seems that a distinguishing asset for grocery workers is a college degree, especially in areas such as operations/supply chain management given that the costs of a grocery biz is mostly in these activities. An MBA is definitely helpful, although an advanced accounting or finance degree would be a huge asset as well.
