Do many employers care about college degrees for entry-level positions?

I am having a hard time even getting entry-level jobs such as cashiering, stock, or retail sales. Do most employers factor my college degree at all? If so, would it be positively or negatively? I have two years experience doing business-to-business sales for a manufacturing company. Would an employee with 1 year experience in retail be a more desirable employee than myself?

  1. I'd say political legislation more than anything. I worked several temp jobs at a major computer mfg., but what I noticed at the end of 89 days before the mandatory hire problem was that the line with the most minorities on the crew got invited to the cafeteria and offered permanent positions. If you are a white male you will need to evaluate the ethnicity and gender of other potential job seekers for the position being advertised. College degree matters as a general first-round selection process at a major corporation because HR is staffed with college grads doing the clerical work.
