I want to have an outdoor career. Any ideas?
I'm 19 years old, and I don't have much outdoors experience yet. But it's my dream to have a career that lets me get outdoors and travel/explore as often as possible. I'm the kind of guy who doesn't want to vacation in Asia. I want to be dropped off there, and wander through the rough, purely for the adventurous feel of it. Anyone have any ideas of what careers let me really get out and travel and explore? On a side note, does anyone know of any survival training programs etc? I live in southern California. Thank you for your time

- become a buyer
- Fish and game
- Wild-fire fighter...see the great outdoors, live outdoors for a few months, get paid GREAT MONEY. Then that will allow you to go travel for a few months and then go back and fight a few more fires. i have a friend that did it and really enjoyed the experience and made a lot of money.
- Go to school get a degree if you want to travel Major in Journalism / minor in World History learn at least to foreign languages. Be A writer / photographer Research opportunities with National Geographies, other Travel Magazines. or tourist publications. If you can't get hired on as staff / Freelance Check into hospitality's / PR for Hotels or research what it requires to be a hotel critic. Cruise line activity / entertainment coordinator. Someone mentioned Buyer ... Major in Business / Marketing/Merchandising /Yes we do travel a lot if you work for the right companies and have the right stuff /talent Less than 10% of the the industry's people actually reach this level allowing them to travel to Europe / China / India ....you will live well.. fly well ....have lots of frequent flier miles ,gold points at some of the best hotels...all this for the exchange of your.life Oh and the fantasy of reeaallly seeing Paris...I was there many times, but I didn't really see Paris till I retired.....Remember the movie the '' The Devil Wore Prada''? It's a watered down version of the true intensity of the industry. If your good, and I mean very GOOD,, ....you will have a lot of fun, travel a lot meet all sorts of interesting people. but don't try to hang onto a relationship or family. while working 16hr days, 6 & 7 days a week / living between airports But when your young and willing to make the sacrifices it can be great! I loved it! But I love Retirement too. It Doesn't have to be fashion, there are many other things to buy Home goods/ sporting goods / furniture / spices / food / iron / gas.... Think about where you want to be and pursue your degree / intern with companies in the summer, you'll have foot in the door when you graduate. Best of Luck!!!
