Colorado Technical University

Health care career question?

Can you get a degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography(ultrashound tech)? Around here there are places like Sanford Brown, and its too expensive and dosnt offer certification at the end of training. The other option that I have found is an associate degree program at the community college which takes two years but the problem with that is i already have some college done, and Im wanting to keep going. I really dont want to start all over. Someday I would like to become a doctor or pharmacist...im just exploring my options right now!

  1. If you already have college credits AND they arent introductory courses or developmental courses, any community college should transfer them in. The issue is whether or not they apply towards your intended program. Cost is what it is, unless the community college that you are considering offers reduced tuition to residents of the county where the college is located. Good Luck
  2. Where do you live?
  3. Yes, depending on the education you alrady have you can get an associate's or bachelors degree in DMS. If I were you I would do the 2 year associate's degree program (same thing I'm doing except my program is 18 months long). There is no reason why you should have to start over with school. I transferred to a tech school after I had already completed 2 years at a university. Your credits should transfer & then you will just have take the remainder of pre-requisite courses that are required to apply to the DMS program (I had to take anatomy, medical terminology, physics, etc). Make sure the school you are considering is accredited by CAAHEP: http://www.caahep.org/Find_An_Accredited_Program.aspx Then talk to someone at the school who is familiar with the DMS program & ask what the pre-req courses are, about transferring your credits, & when the deadline is to apply to the program. You may also want to ask how long the waiting list is, sometimes these programs are very competitive & full. Good luck! And by the way, I have not heard good things about Sanford-Brown. I had initially looked into one where I live & I didn't like how they said they treat their students like customers..I just thought that was weird. Plus it is more expensive than a regular technical school & you don't want to have issues with certification after you graduate.
