Is it possible to test out of classes at the undergraduate level?

I am wanting to test out of some undergraduate classes. Is there any college, particularly an ABET-accredited engineering program, that will allow this? I know this is possible in lower division, but is this possible in upper division? What are the rules about this, and how will this affect grading statistics for possibly using to get into graduate school a few years down the road? My old college wouldn't allow this, afraid they would lose their accreditation, but I want to check other options out, because I know a LOT of the academic stuff in classes that I can't seem to get credit for because they are scheduled all over the place, at inconvenient times. For example, one class I need is scheduled in the morning, then the other one I need to progress isn't until the afternoon! It's like this for every class. Any suggestions?

  1. You can find out at the university testing office which courses you can "CLEP" out of, they have a list.
  2. I know that USC in California will let you test out of stuff. It jsut depends - you need to set up an appointment with the dean of the program that you want ot test out of stuff in. They usually limit what you can test out of. Doesn't hurt to ask and see.
  3. Well the school's I went to let me do that but....I still had to pay for the credit...Now I only did the 1 and 2 hundred level classes....I should say I went straight to the dean and he was a great help getting it done for me...I should also say I went to school with the deans son... my best friend going back to grade school so he knew my quite well going in to this..
