Masteral and doctoral degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering?

For the very well experience individuals in engineering out there, how many years does it usually take to accomplish a masteral or doctoral degree in mechanical and electrical engineering?? What does a Bachelor degree engineering have to do, to gain a masteral or doctoral degree???

  1. To get the masters it normally takes one to two years, then after the masters degree it normally takes 3 to 5 years to get the Phd. I got my BSEE from the University of Illinois, my masters is not in engineering.
  2. It takes about ~2 years for a Maters in Engineering and probably 3-5 years for a PhD depending on the research you are doing. If you want a PhD, generally you don't have to get a masters. A bachelor degree in engineering is not required for an engineering PhD, but you would have to probably take the equivalent of the senior level class in your major before you started the PhD program. (For example if you have a bachelor in physics and you want a PhD in Mechanical Engineering you would probably have to take the senior level mechanical engineering classes.)
  3. Two years to reach masters degree from bachelors level and doctoral degree takes normally 3 years, but it depends on many factors like subject, guide and of course your effort. There is no use of doing doctoral degree after masters.
