Colorado Technical University

My question is about colleges?

I have my associate degree, which I earn at Colorado Technical University and I'm trying to find out if UCLA will accept my credits. I have spoke with admission but they told me contact my school but they told me it's up to UCLA.. what should I do?

  1. You need to go to your tech school and meet with a college counselor. While in the meeting, call and talk to UCLA.
  2. It is up to UCLA. CTU has no power in deciding what UCLA can and won't accept. I would suggest getting a full description of all the classes you took and the classes that UCLA offers that look like they would be the exact same. Then you need to go to UCLA (it's best if it's in person because they can't just abandon you as easily as they can on the phone) and tell them, "Here are all the classes I took and the school's description of what they covered. Here are the classes that look similar at your college. Are these credits transferable?"
  3. The problem may be that Universities do not like saying what credit they might assign if somebody is maybe going to apply for transfer credit. They have enough work to do in dealing with real, concrete, transfer credit issues without getting into the speculative. You school is correct that it will be up to UCLA to decide but you might ask them what has been their experience with transfer credits. In general though a course from an accredited university is transferable to any other accredited university. Just what credit equivalency they will give it is though quite another matter.
  4. Contact the registrar's office not admissions. The registrar makes decisions about credit transfer. They're probably going to tell you that you have to apply to find out for sure. Colorado Tech is accredited by NorthCentral Association so is regionally accredited. Their credits should transfer to UCLA as long as they meet all of the other requirements such as being appropriate to your degree and at the right level. Remember, no college ever has to transfer credit from any other college. Be real nice and they'll be most cooperative. I know of two colleges that just don't accept transfer credit from anywhere.
