What are the least practical and useful college degrees? Does it matter what a person gets a degree in?

  1. Yes, it certainly does matter what you get a degree in. Some degrees are very practical - nursing, accounting, engineering, teaching - and offer work in those specific fields. Others are more general but can be applied to many fields - science, math are a couple. Others represent very general skills that might be of use - English for example. And some are just plain useless unless you're going to law school or to find a job that requires a college degree but doesn't care which (philosophy, women's studies, art).
  2. Least practical: Philosophy Most practical: Business, Economics Least Useful: Religion (unless you plan on being a minister) Most Useful: Math
  3. In reality, there is only one degree that is of value to anyone. All the rest are of no value to them. Think about it this way. What do you want to do? Do you even need a degree to do it? If so, what degree will help you get to your goal? That, and only that, degree is the only degree that is of value to you. I wish more people would get their degrees in an area that they knew they would love. The world would be a lot happier place. Unfortunately, we are being forced to declare our intentions earlier and earlier, and we have no basis on which to form our decisions. I hope life works out for you, and that all your choices are correct for you.
  4. Most practical are BS degrees. least are BA degrees. And it makes the difference of the rest of your life which degree you take.
