I am 42 years old with no real job skills. Is there anywhere that I can get training for a career?
I have been a security guard off and on for about 10 years and done some fast food management. None of which have yielded the opportunities that I would like to see. I am not looking to become the CEO in a year, but having an opportunity to advance based on my performance and not how well I kiss butt would be nice.

- try a community college. they are pretty inexpensive, and are helpful in changing careers
- College.
- go to a community college and ask them if they provide vocational training.
- Adult education, community college, trade schools.
- At the community college, make sure you look to see if they have programs that teach you a specific job skill. The one here offers dental assistant, hairdresser, auto repair, farm equipment repair, legal secretary, etc. If you go and just get a general education degree, it will be less useful for your goal. Some truck driving companies will train you for free, as long as you sign a contract to work for them for so many years.
- Being a nurses aide. you have to take a class for it and be trained and you are always guaranteed a job. A plus is that it pays really well!
