Colorado Technical University

I am 42 years old with no real job skills. Is there anywhere that I can get training for a career?

I have been a security guard off and on for about 10 years and done some fast food management. None of which have yielded the opportunities that I would like to see. I am not looking to become the CEO in a year, but having an opportunity to advance based on my performance and not how well I kiss butt would be nice.

  1. try a community college. they are pretty inexpensive, and are helpful in changing careers
  2. College.
  3. go to a community college and ask them if they provide vocational training.
  4. Adult education, community college, trade schools.
  5. At the community college, make sure you look to see if they have programs that teach you a specific job skill. The one here offers dental assistant, hairdresser, auto repair, farm equipment repair, legal secretary, etc. If you go and just get a general education degree, it will be less useful for your goal. Some truck driving companies will train you for free, as long as you sign a contract to work for them for so many years.
  6. Being a nurses aide. you have to take a class for it and be trained and you are always guaranteed a job. A plus is that it pays really well!
