How can I make the Navy/Navy Nuclear Training into a career?
My plan, once I'm out of high school, is to become a Navy Nuke. I'm taking advanced math classes, physics classes, and bumping up all my grades in preparation for my application to the program. I have researched a lot about the program and have talked to a recruiting about how he made the Navy into a career. What I wanted to know is what are my options once I'm done with the Navy Nuclear program? -Power Plants -Continue my service with the Navy?(What are the benefits of reenlisting after my initial enlistment is up? My plan was during my reenlistment to apply for the officer program and continue on from there, but I'm don't know much about that path.) If anyone is willing to guide me/give me advice/give me options, I'd really appreciate it.

- SRB [Selective Re-Enlistment Bonus] is now at $90k. You enlist for 6 years. 4 years active and 2 year obligated. At your 4 year mark you Re-Enlist for 4 years. They hand you a check for 50% of your SRB [$45k] Every year after that you get an anniversary check for $11k. You can do this again and again until you hit 15 years when your SRB drops to nothing. Stop thinking about officer. They do not get SRB. They also get less of the allowances. They get more base pay, but few allowances. Pro nucs make out on the allowances. :) Stay for 20 years. Go subs :) Max-out on the bonuses and SRB! Take college courses via correspondence, and complete a degree every couple years. Invest like crazy! In 20 years you will have a pension. And you will have an investment portfolio of over $1million. and you will have a couple college degrees. Then you can post here and Ooops, you would be like me. Hmm, well okay. Do it. :) Really now think about subs. I retired at 42 years old. And I retired. Nucs rule!
