Why are college degrees earned online disrespected?

I've heard a lot of people are biased against college degrees earned online. I think that's pretty ignorant. I mean, you learn the same thing online as on a campus. Why does it matter as long as you passed and have earned your degree? I mean, I know it's at your home, but you still have to buckle down on your studies, and pass your exams. You learn the same thing online as on a campus.

1. Classroom and out-of-class interaction in an academic environment is a big part of getting an education. This is missing in online courses. True education is supposed to be a wrenching, total upheaval of a student's thinking. This takes four years of campus immersion (OK, three in some countries). It is easy to spot a person whose bachelor's degree was obtained totally on-line. The other reason such degrees are held in low regard is that historically, online ("correspondence") courses were often sold by substandard schools, often not much more than diploma mills appealing to people who get their information from comic books.
