Republicans: Obama is asking all young people to seek education beyond high school. Is he right to do this?

He has this annoying commercial asking all young people to committ to postsecondary education beyond a high school diploma. He's trying to send a message that people shouldn't stop seeking education upon graduating high school. Is he right or wrong to encourage this?

Public Comments

  1. yes but 50% of blacks drop out of high school Someone has to support them. --- source: Sharpton
  2. Yes. 50% of our white Southerners drop out of High School.
  3. As long as he asks them to seek jobs and pay off their student loans as well what can it hurt?
  4. 1) It is only annoying to Republicans. Anything that annoys Republicans is good. 2) Encouraging education is a good thing because it empowers our society. 3) Republicans hate education. See Sarah Palin as exhibit A.
  5. He's wrong. Why spend thousands of dollars and sacrafice a stress-free lifestyle.......to get a degree............instead of just lying on your resume and claiming you have a degree?
  6. I say no, What happen to get pregnant in High School and drop out? so Anti-American ..
  7. Wrong. Here's why. 1) College isnt for everyone, and, 2) no college graduate would get a job at mcdonalds. (can you imagine if NOBODY had a rock-bottom job?)
  8. You have this annoying question on YA! asking if people should be smart or stupid... hmmm...
  9. it is a good message. to bad 75% of hs grads have to take remedial math and english classes as freshmen in college.
  10. The jobs of the future, albeit the jobs today, take a higher level of education. All individuals should commit to a postsecondary education.
  11. He is absolutely right to encourage this. Education has the potential to prevent a lot of bad choices in life in the event that one's parents didn't do a top-notch job raising him or her. Education also tends to delay having children, which is becoming more and more crucial as high school diplomas no longer guarantee a self-sufficient existence.
  12. What would be the alternative? Marry your cousin and move into a trailer park, raising five kids? Oh, wait. That's the make-up of the Conservative party. Never mind. I guess that works too!
  13. He has to encourage this. People who graduate from public school, some of which can not even read, need more education. Seniors in High School only have what use to be an 8th grade education just 100 short years ago. Government run Public Schools are a total sham. Get rid of them all and start over with private, local schools. These type schools are proven to work.
  14. As long as they don't turn into socialist anti American zombies like all democrats seem to come out as.
  15. I think that I support his view.
  16. No. By doing so, he is weakening the value of a college degree thereby making it useless. Further, if the government is going to pay for it, as he claims, that's more debt and expecting the college graduates to do service when they should be starting careers, which isn't easy to do later as I know from experience. Moreover, if many graduates don't pay their college loans back now, I'm sure they'll find a way out of doing service.
  17. He's absolutely right to ask for us to better ourselves. Why shouldn't he and everyone else in a position of power want each and every one of us to be the best that we can and accept personal responsibility for our actions and our future. If you find it so annoying, you also have the right to ignore the message. That's the great thing about our rights. We have the right to say pretty much anything we want and we also have the right to not listen to everyone else.
  18. Absolutely correct. You don't have to agree, there are a lot of useless lazy people out there, but it would be good for the country. I met a nurse from the Phillipines who wanted to work in this country. She had to complete college and master English first. Look how far behind we are compared to other countries. Barack is right in every decision he makes.
  19. I think it's a great idea, however as sucky as most public schools are I dont see it happening. f public schools are so great, why dont the obama children attend one?
  20. i really couldn't stand the college crowd i am doing OK without obama needs to send all of his little milk cows out to make money that he can steal what is the purpose of anyone working hard when everything necessary is guaranteed i know a shlt load of college grads working in mcdonalds
  21. IT'S CALLED INDOCTRINATION............!
  22. Not everyone is college material. But technical or specialized vocational post high school training is a good alternative for some. Encouraging kids to seek further education is not a bad idea but it's unrealistic to expect everyone to go to college. If they have no marketable skills further training is good. I'm a democrat.
  23. considering that it actually costs money to go to college or get into trades, it's not that easy.
  24. right now 75% do not receive a college degree, with this commercial we may decrease this to 74.99999% the way to get kids into college is by strengthening the public education system, it doesn't need more money, it needs disciplinarians and educated people. When a BA in education is teaching HS biology, physics, chemistry, ect it is unacceptable.
  25. Yes, he is because post secondary whether it be in a trade school or university always allow more options for your financial future. The idiot who answered 50% of black Americans are drop outs is wrong on so many different levels. Seek therapy please! African Americans have been mentally oppressed for so many years by ignorant individuals such as the person that presented that inaccurate statistic 30% that drop out obviously has some type of reason. As well for that idiot when you speak of any failures of African Americans you may as well be an adult an take some responsibility.
  26. I believe that throughout most of our history, our Presidents have *ALL* encouraged further education!
  27. He is but it's much like other sayings or pushed from the white house. Call attention to a problem comment on how it should be fixed, get the PR from it and nothing changes.
