  1. The information will change dependent upon which country the assignment is required. In the United States of America the following is the general norm ... Courses required at post secondary institution:? Varies according the institution but a minimum of 24 hours is required for a major and 18 hours for a minor. A BA or BS is required to teach in the United States and you must take specific courses to pass the state-mandated tests. Post secondary institution:?? Most of the major institutions in all states have course work sufficient to meet the requirements. Choose a college or better yet the specific state's department of education website and the information is available. Cost of tuition:??? The cost of tuition is also dependent upon the specific state where the individual will attend classes. Each state determines it's own tuition rate for in-state, out of state, and foreign students. Cost of accommodations:??? Cost of accommodations are determined by the specific institution. Check out the website of the institutions in which you are interested and the information as well as package deals are available for review. Length of program:?? The majority of programs are at least 124 hours in total or four years, three years if summer school courses are taken. Entry level position for career:?? Beginning teacher, everyone in the United States begins as a first-year teacher unless there are specific situations such as you worked in cartography in for the government and have an advanced degree. Entry level salary:?? Salaries are the responsiblity of the state, who sets the minimum, and in some cases the individual districts will augment the minimum state salary. The salary usually ranges for a first year teacher from ~$36K to ~$46K dependent upon the state, the district, the need, and the level of education. Possible career advancement:?? Geography teachers per se are not really in high demand. A social studies composite, where the individual teachers all the social sciences, is a better choice because one can teach in other areas while awaiting a chance to teach geography.
