University of Toronto: are residences open to vacationers?

In the course of planning summer holidays, I have stayed with my family at university residences across the country, including St. Mary's in Halifax, the University of Ottawa and the University of Calgary: Does the University of Toronto open its residences to vacationers who are not students? If not, are there other postsecondary education institutions in Toronto that rent unused residence space to weary travelers?

Public Comments

  1. U of T offers up their Chestnut residence for short-term summer stays. These residences are not on campus and are located in a former hotel behind City Hall. The rate is around $95 per night. Ryerson University offers two different residences. One is hotel style for about $80 per night. The other is more traditional student residences with shared facilities for about $50 per night. Both are in the downtown core, but not as convenient as Chestnut.
  2. 89 Chestnut is a nice place to stay. If you're interested in on-campus accommodation, UofT opens their New College Residence buildings to non-students. The rates are much cheaper than what's available at 89 Chestnut. Here's a link to their website: http://www.ncsummer.utoronto.ca/Home.htm Hope this helps.
