Should Northwestern and Illinois be demoted to division III College Football?

Northwestern and Illinois are the WORST colleges in College Football. They never win they always manage to humiliate themselves every season and because of their inability to recruit and their impossibly high academic standards they cant get any good football players. Should the NCAA just demote these schools to division III or better yet cancel their programs altogether because they simply can never compete against their own conference rivals as well as the much more NFL-like conferences of the SEC and Big 12.

  1. Illinois has high academic standards? Northwestern, last year, made a bowl game. Illinois, two years ago, went to the Rose Bowl. FYI, Michigan has very high academic standards as well. And they have the most wins in D1 football. If you are going to demote teams like Northwestern and Illinois, you have to demote teams like Vandy, Stanford, Iowa State, Baylor, etc.
  2. Actually, I think Indiana should probably be demoted, not Illinois or Northwestern, especially since both have gone to bowl games on a more regular basis than Indiana.
  3. I think the entire Division 1 needs a revamp. I really don't think they need 120 teams since 90 of them have no shot at being invited to a major bowl game. They should take the non BCS conferences and have them play in their own division for their own title if there is no possibility for them to compete as it is now. All they are is a way for the USC's, Florida's and other big programs to inflate their stats anyway. Lets make them play a schedual thats not full of pushovers for the first 4 weeks
  4. I'm not sure you understand how divisions work. D3 is for teams that have no scholarships, take anyone on the team who wants to play, and are (more or less) just intramural teams. You may think Illinois and Northwestern are bad; but, they are not that bad. D3 is for schools like the University of Chicago, Washington U, MIT, and Caltech. D2 is more likely what you meant. But in truth, Notre Dame has been terrible forever -- but they remain in D1. And given the wide support for multiple sports at both Illinois and Northwestern, demotion is unlikely.
