Which body accredits doctoral program in the US?

Which body accredits doctoral program in the US? How can I know if the doctoral degree (eg. Ph. D.computer science) offered by a university in the US is accredited. How can I know if the doctoral program of a particular university is accredited. Specifically, I would like to know where I can get information on the accreditation of doctoral computer science programs.

1. Some professional doctorates are accredited by "programmatic" bodies, such as those for the Health professions. States control which of their public universities may issue doctorates. Otherwise, doctorates are not (separately) accredited, and rest on the reputation of the school giving the doctorate. This absence of control of doctorates is one reason who so many bogus and substandard schools feel free to offer (sell) doctorates.
