Is it weird to get two masters degrees?

Im getting a bachelor degree in Psychology, and someday I want to either be a teacher, or a school counselor. Those are both two different degrees. I don;t know what to do, I'm stuck.

  1. I know a few people with two masters degrees. You've still got a few years to decide which masters you want - the people I know with two are only using one of them.
  2. No, but anymore than two and employers will tend to think that you simply weren't smart enough to pursue a PhD. Two masters is plenty. You can compliment them with some graduate certificates.
  3. You do not need an additional degree to go into teaching (though specifics will depend on state). Here is how it works in Washington State, most others are similar. You get a degree in something. You take extra credits in the specialty you want an endorsement for if necessary (i believe 45 quarter credits is standard, 30 semester). For example, get a degree in mathematics, take 45 credits of history and grab a minor maybe. You get your teaching endorsement (usually an additional year), and you apply for a job as either a math or history teacher, or even both. Multiple endorsements can make you really marketable.
