When should I apply for financial aid for a career training school?

I am taking an entry test on Monday for a career training school fast track program. If I pass the test, which I know I will, the total cost of tuition is required to be paid to hold my place. I don't HAVE to pay it then, but I might not be able to get enrolled in the class if I don't pay in full. (class only holds 10 people and 5 are already signed up). The cost is $1660. Do I apply for financial aid now? Do I wait until I take the entry test? Are there any federal grants for this? What happens in the case that I do apply now, before I take the test, I get approved, but I fail the test. Do I still have to get the money and pay it back even though I can't use it?

  1. You should apply for financial aid as soon as possible. You don't have to accept anything, but applying will get the ball rolling so that if you do get accepted, your aid will already be in place. That is, IF your school is accredited to receive federal financial aid. If they are, they should have a system set up where they will loan you your tuition money until your aid comes in.
