  1. I have have taught before and would not recommend it. My advice would be to pursue business administration due to the fact the pay is better and you have more options for a career.
  2. I can almost definitely say no to secondary education . . . of course, the answer depends a lot on who you are. I taught secondary Spanish, History, and English for three years. During those three years I made a difference in several of my students' lives. Many of my students developed self-discipline and self respect that they will carry for the rest of their lives. I also had my life threatened at least 4 times. I would stay up late at night regularly trying to make my class more interesting and wrecking my brain trying to think of how to reach certain students. Some times I would teach great classes where the kids behaved, interacted, and learned; regularly the classes and all of my ideas would simply fail. I had students that constantly tried to insult me or mess up my class. I was lied to in the most astounding and creative ways imaginable. I had parents yell at me despite being professional, honest, and truly trying to be a great teacher. I had to eat lunch with teachers that were depressing. I cried myself to sleep a few times. While in the school, I observed many of the other teachers. My experience and hardship was not unique. Many, many, many of the teachers were doing their best and simply being run over by a complete lack of support from parents, the school administration, and the students themselves. I did see some teachers that had special relationships with all of their students. These "Jedi" teachers were in control of their classes, managed to get the least behaved to work and get along. These zen masters (teachers) did not get upset; their students did not try to drive them crazy; and they did not overwork themselves. I do not know what it takes to succeed with a degree in business administration. I do know that to succeed as a high school teacher you must be very organized, prepared, not take things personally, have real social grace, be "quick on your feet," and have a little Jedi magic in you.
