Is it realistic to try to obtain at least three masters degrees in addition to a PhD?
I mean, there are SO MANY fields I would like to research more thoroughly as an academic, I just don't know how realistic it is to pursue all or any sizable number of them.

- Yes one after the other but you would be very busy and you would be done in you're late 30's but whatever floats your boat.
- It really isn't. You're setting yourself up to be a "career student" (ie. someone who spends years and years as a grad student instead of starting a career). I understand that you have diverse interests, but you need to understand that a Bachelors + 3 Masters + PhD will take you 13+ years, assuming you pass everything and don't change your mind about your program, and could require unbearable amounts of debt. If you love academia, then your best bet is to work in that setting. Do a double major for your Bachelors (two learn two subjects that you like), then do your Masters and PhD and become a professor.
- Its more realistic to try to focus on one area and pursue a degree in that field. Everything else you can just study in your spare time. You don't need a degree to be a dilettante.
