How many hours will you need to dedicate to the training of pilot career (outside of your college or training program)???

- In the US, the training required to become a regional airline pilot is approximately equivalent in cost and time to a four year college degree...
- completely depends on the airline, some are 300 hours and some are much more.
- Hours to dedicate per week, month, day?? You will need 250 hours total to become a commercial pilot. Then you will need to add a multi engine rating.. As others have said, about 300 hours total. This will get you the training you need but likely not the experience. From there you will need to find a job that fits a low time pilot and build some real world flying time with an employer.. Some have gotten jobs at the regionals with as few as 300 hours but most are in the 800 to 1000 range. The more hours you have and more varied your flight experience is, the more competitive you are in getting hired either with an airline or as a corporate pilot
