Why do some people with higher degrees (doctorates, masters, and bachelors) brag and insult people?

The lady at the school I attend had to make it known she held a masters degree, and then tried her best to belittle me. Why do they act in such a manor?

1. Most likely she was bullied and harassed as she got that high degree for being a nerd, geek, loser, anti-social...So, now that she has that high degree, she takes her anger out at people.
2. Because they think that just because they have can afford a higher level of education they are better than others.
3. All people act this way sometimes. Not just people with degrees, but even people who have no place to be bragging about anything. It is human nature.
4. Meh. I guess its kind of like bragging rights. Graduate degrees always require lots of work and time. So I suppose its some what justified to brag since you put so much work into one. Some of my professors that have doctorate degrees like to be called "Dr. etc". But some of them are really cool and don't care. I had one professor that had a doctorate, but he liked us calling him by his first name. LOL.
5. ive experienced that as well, i guess you should ignore them because they think a piece of paper with some stamps makes them superior in some way, its actually entertaining to watch when there arent good shows on tv
6. Because they can... Simple as that. Humans are basically insecure, and need to feel good about themselves. Some need to put other people down.
7. I do not think you have demonstrated any real correlation between having a degree and being insulting. Perhaps the issue is more complex then you have portrayed it?
8. It does not matter how well educated someone may be...they are still human...and sometimes "know not what they do". It doesn't make it right...but it does help to put such behavior in perspective.

10. Because while we are out busting our balls working the grind, they are out busting their balls working in school. They take jobs as professors because that's really all a guy can do to pay off his eighty-thousand-dollar student loan. For instance, I know a guy who went to school for five years. His degree? I believe it was something like a Bachelor of history with a major in medieval history. Because medieval history is a very practical thing to be educated on in this day in age. He currently works for a landscaping company. Nice to see him using his degree towards his career. Not every doctor, master, or bachelor you meet will be a total dick, but the ones who fail at what they initially set out to do are some of the most condescending people on the planet.
11. I think some feel we are inferior to them. At least that is how I see it, when I notice it happening.

13. These people are not 'educated' in the real sense! Literate but unlearned!!! Impatient and arrogant! I would go so far as to call them Small-minded and Ignorant! Unfortunately, they abound :( Why do they act in such a manner? I guess they feel somewhat Insecure and seek respect by flaunting their high degrees, if their knowledge fails to impress! Edit: (((< I > ))), You are not 'some' people...you are aweSOME people :)) I have never 'seen' you flaunt 'bad bad degrees' you've bagged, in so many years that I've known you! But you needn't!!! Not even when provoked or angry ;). Your superior knowledge comes across beautifully without those...Truly! (((Hugs)))
14. more than thousands get admission in masters , not all get their degrees, and all those who do , do not become famous, may be you are better than her in some way so she has a complex

Why are you generalizing, because "some lady" with a masters degree, happened to have belittled you (or so your ego had interpreted the incident)? ... She certainly doesn't brag and insult people, because she has an advanced degree! ... She does it, because that's who she is by nature; an arrogant, rude, impolite, conceited, uncouth, inconsiderate, self-righteous, egotistical, insecure individual with an ax to grind. Who knows, maybe deep down she's bothered by the fact that you're younger and sexier, so she tries to cut you down to size! And why didn't you confront that "some lady" about her tasteless and inappropriate behavior, on the spot; instead of venting out / ranting on a venue like this? ... Courage my friend, courage! What are you hoping to hear/achieve? ... Is this to sooth your own bruised, unique, sassy, smart ego or is there a higher purpose involved, here? ... Do we really need to be made aware of/reminded of the fact that they are insensitive and inconsiderate people out there in the world? A friendly suggestion: Get an advanced degree, so next time someone insults you, you don't blame it on your lack of formal education. ... Maybe, that's what happened to that "some lady", herself! Kindness, caring, and compassion --- they bring meaning into our lives and make the world a better place; pay it forward. .
16. actually, I think you're just generalizing these people. Just because one of them did it to you doesn't mean all of these people really are a****. This is your perception of THAT lady. And because of this you've concluded that people with higher degrees are all douchebags by nature. Not meaning to offend, but your statement is quite subjective. You need evidence to substantiate your claim. Conduct a research maybe? My mom has a PhD and she seems to get along well with people. I know it is subjective to state as such but I really think it all boils down to personality and interaction with people. Other factors may have contributed to her being a tool to you. Maybe she was having a bad day at that time, or she had Pre-Menopausal Syndrome or whatnot. You can never really tell why unless you appraise the situation. idk. that's just my opinion though.
17. Some people who have higher knowledges have a cocky attitude, so they brag and insult others who are not as intelligent as them.
