What's so bad about liberal professors in America?
Aren't they part of what's supposedly that best postsecondary education system in the world? http://www.wjh.harvard.edu/~ngross/lounsbery_9-25.pdf The vast majority of Professors identify as liberal. But,there seems to be a sentiment against them among conservatives that's part of an anti-intellectual current that I believe,is historically associated with conservatism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-intellectualism#Rightist_perspective

- you know why liberals go back to the University? This is the truth...and they don't even realize it themselves... A University is safe. It's not the real world. It is an idealistic place where everything is done for them. They don't have to practice what they preach... they just preach and never worry about the real consequence of their stuuup!d beliefs. edit: See how many thumbs down I got... because Liberals know this dark secret.... it should tell you something.
- I wish there was some independent professors.
- Some of them tend to influence students to be like them. It's kind of elitist. Although I can't say I've met one of them in my lifetime. People like Noam Chomsky come to mind...
- They are teaching anti-American propaganda.
- Because they disagree with conservatives, which rely on poorly informed, boisterous loud mouths to parrot the information handed to them in sound bites. Liberal concepts, such as democracy and the belief that people are inherently good, tends to be at the culmination of broad educational base. Knowledge and understanding breeds liberalism, which is why Jesus was a liberal. Being afraid of the boogie man, hording tendencies, and thinking your religion is better than everyone else's are the hallmarks of conservative thought.
- ... The whole thing is pretty nutty. It's just part of an all-out unrelenting onslaught on liberalism in all its forms. Pure propaganda nonsense. And that lack of education? It shows.
- Their liberal agenda.
- They've never worked an honest job in their lives and arent qualified to teach anything of real life
- Liberal professors need to get out into the real world , rather than spend their whole lives in their ivory tower Universities indoctrinating the kids into their twisted ideas of a perfect world .
- I did not see much in the way of data to support the theory. That is what is making me wary. All they needed was something like a gallop pole or census questionnaire to a sample of professors.
- Because teachers and professors are a huge influence on a young person's life. Being taught by someone who is biased either way is not true learning because they will always leave out or put down the views of the other side. More professors should be neutral and non-partisan in their teachings. Yes, many conservatives complain about the fact that many profs are liberal, but if it was the other way around you would hear the same complaints from the left. Can you imagine if there were conservative profs who pushed religion on their students? The left would have a fit. My point is it goes both ways, and to teach from the middle is the most fair for everyone. Of course any student who has a strong will and mind of their own will take any biased teachings of either side with a grain of salt and form their own opinions through their own experiences.
- Its interesting, we all talk about universities like ALL they teach are politics and government related things. Most courses don't mention political issues at all. Personally, I don't care what political affiliation a professor ascribes to. I never went to school for political instruction and I can certainly tolerate a different opinion of mine. The people upset by a teacher or a professor's political beliefs is a person who is easily threatened.
- ..."anti-intellectual current.."? Are you serious? It doesn't have a damn thing to do with being anti-intellectual and everything to do with anti-liberalism. You obviously have the mindset that one must be a liberal to be intellectual and are therefore wrong.
- Statistically speaking in present day politics, the higher your education level, the more likely you are to identify yourself as a liberal. Some conservatives have drawn the conclusion that it's because the students' professors make them that way or "brainwash" them. The real answer is much simpler, watch Fox news for a few days and then watch the daily show or even just a broadcast news hour. Conservatives are standing on fibs, untruths and outright lies. Anyone with an education easily sees blatant manipulation and generally rebels against it.
- Science and research never gives straight answers, neither do professors. There is always pro and con. As indicated in the “Political mind” by G. Lakoff, conservatives have hard time dealing with uncertainty. They need authoritarian figures to tell them what to do. Liberal professors look like girly sissies with their probable answers. There is an exception though. I was always wondering why conservatives hate people with PhDs, but at the same time zealously protect medical doctors, especially those with elite education. Conservative major complain about public education consists of not preparing their offspring to be accepted to medical school.
