Do I have a chance of getting an MBA or CPA?

I was much too young, immature and unprepared when I went to college. I tried to take a year off when I was 18 but was told by my parents that it was unacceptable. I essentially wasted 4 years of education and even though I graduated on time, it was with a BA in Business with a 2.1 average (I deeply regret this). I'm 25 now and have been working for a large corporation for the past year - doing some bookkeeping, handling large multi-million dollar deals, etc. I want to advance in my career and realize I love the business/finance world. I would like to go back to school to get my MBA or CPA in about a year. What are my chances of getting into a decent business school or doing an accounting track with my dismal college record?

  1. I'd say pretty good if you have all that experience. MBA's really only help ppl who already have experience, so I would say you are golden. I know ppl who have gotten an MBA with a concentration in Accounting. Is your company willing to pay for it?
  2. why dont u go for distance program for doing ur mba. Their r many universities who r giving such programs like symbiosis,AIMA,smu and many more..........
  3. MBA programs consider three criteria in deciding on admitting an applicant: GPA, GMAT score, and work experience. A low GPA can be offset by the other two. Since you've been out of school for some time, you may want to take a GMAT preparation course before you attempt the test. You should be able to get into a good MBA program. The CPA is a somewhat different situation. Each state has its requirements, so you should check with the state professional office and find out what the requirements are. You probably don't have enough accounting courses and may need at least a year or more to earn them at the undergraduate level. Most states require 30 additional hours of graduate study, which the MBA satisfies. Consult the Official MBA Guide. It's a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, executive, and accelerated), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. Schools report their accreditation status, tuition cost, number of students, class sizes, program length, and a lot of other data. Schools provide data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, joint degrees, and much more. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria.
