How real are college degrees from Christian universities?
I was going through resumes with HR and we were laughing about these applicants from weird colleges. Is a BA degree from a Christian college recognized or accredited by anyone but ministers?

- Uh, real
- Depends. Notre Dame....pretty real. Liberty University, total trash.
- as real as God gets. you decide.
- Depends on the college. If they are nationally accredited, the degree is real. If they are diploma mills like the one Kent "Dr. Dino" Hovind got his mail-order degree from, not so much.
- They're basically like god: you can't see them, you can't sense them at all, but with enough faith, you can convince yourself they're real. Unfortunately, those heathen employers will deny their existence.
- you have schools like Baylor, Duke, Wake Forest, Notre Dame Holy Cross,Boston College. There are many other christian universities that have reallly good credentials. I would sa ytha tmost of their degrees are real. You must be careful though there are still fly by nights out there.
- Check and see if the university and the program is accredited. Here's a guide to US college accreditation http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html
- It will probably be a degree in Theology or Philosophy then won't it? So why shouldn't it be accredited? Theology etc. is just History, but religious history. So any attributed gained from studying History are also gained from studying Theological subjects. Could lead to teaching, work in the civil service, journalism, work in the government, administration work in a good business etc.
- How real are most people these days?
- Depends, you'd probably have to research the 'university' to see if it actually should be granting degrees.
- As long as it's not a science degree I don't see any conflict.
- Liberty University is not trash, please do not listen to that. I am a local resident and many people who go there stay nearby. Having been quite informed on the hiring tendencies of local employers they would hire a LU grad over any other college grad with equal qualifications. How do they have a fully accredited Law school, school of aviation, and nursing, if they are not recognized? Or why would Army and Air Force ROTC both be offered programs? Because it is legit. On regards to other colleges it depends on their national accreditation, If the school is accredited then it should be recognized by everyone.
- Why do you consider a Christian accrediting agency less than or inferior to a non-Christian agency, especially if it is recognized by the United States Department of Education institutional accrediting association? Are you bias? Not all colleges, whether Christian or not, are accredited. Each college is different with different accreditation. Some Christian colleges have accreditation from both Christian agencies and non-Christian agencies, or one or the other. Whether it is Christian or not does not indicate or speak to the quality of the school or accreditation. Either or could have poor quality.
- Depends on where they are. In Canada, all universities and virtually all colleges are federally regulated and accredited, thus, a Canadian degree is good no matter what university it comes from. In the USA, there are all sorts of accreditation systems. I once saw an accreditation company that had exactly one school it accredited - both were owned by the same corporation. Something not quite right there.... They also have many non-accredited schools there. In the UK, I have no idea. My guess is that any school there would be properly accredited, but I do not know for sure.
- I think it all depends on the schools accreditation. Christian universities are essentially the same as other colleges in the sense that you want to go to one that has great credentials.
- Depends on the Christian university. There are a few that are fully accredited. For example, Northwest Nazarene University (Idaho) is fully accredited, and it is a Christian university. http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ/state/ http://www.nnu.edu/ Saint Martin's University in Washington State, which is also Christian (Benedictine), is fully accredited. http://www.stmartin.edu/ Brigham Young is also accredited. http://www.byui.edu/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigham_Young_University Surprised?
- Bob, it depends on whether the college is accredited. I attended Abilene Christian University in TX, and it is accredited by the Southern Assn. of Colleges and Universities. A degree from a recognized college is legitimate. A university will offer undergraduate and graduate degrees, and the courses required to obtain such a degree are the same as those in a state school. The difference is there will also be courses in religious teaching. Those are usually required during the first two years of attendance, and then the student goes on to focus on courses related to his/her major. There are, of course, some colleges whose curriculum I would question, such as Oral Roberts University. I don't know much about Brigham Young University in Utah, although I suspect it heavily leans toward Mormon teachings. Notre Dame is a highly recognized Catholic university that has turned out some excellent graduates. When you're looking at catalogs, check to see if the college is accredited by a national governing body. That should be your guide.
