can you get admitted to a doctoral program without a degree in that field?

I have a BA in multimedia but am thinking of entering a science doctoral program. They all seem to require a bachelor's in physics, however.

  1. They usually don't require a degree in a particular field...that is just based on graduate programs I have looked at though, it sounds like you have looked at different programs than me. There are many doctoral programs that don't require a degree in their field though. I have looked at grad programs in medical and veterinary fields, science fields, and psychology/cognitive science/neuroscience programs and they just have certain classes as pre-reqs. Some prefer a science undergraduate degree, but typically not. I would contact the admissions department of the school you are looking at and explain your situation, and see if you could be admitted after taking certain pre-reqs (only if you haven't taken the proper science classes). If they are really set on everyone having a BS in physics, I would look for another program. I'm not sure what major you're searching for, but maybe you can look here http://myplan.com/majors/index.php
