How competitive is admission to USC's doctoral program in Physics?

Sorry, I should have specified. I was referring to University of Southern California :P

  1. Which USC are we talking about? Southern California or South Carolina? Southern California is probably a bit harder to get into than South Carolina; SoCal ranks at 48 while SCarolina ranks at 95 for physics PhD programs. But that doesn't mean low ranked programs are easy to get into. My university (while a top public school) only has a small physics program, and is therefore 'unranked' (100 or above) - the rankings are directly proportional to the number of students you graduate per year - and we only accepted about 10% of applicants this year for our program. Higher ranked programs are even more selective.
