What is the diffrence between The DPS and PHD ?
Hi I finished my master degree in CS and I wanted to pursue a doctoral program in computer science or related field , while researching universities I found out that there is a degree which is awarded in 3 years called DPS . Is this degree equivalent to a PHD ? if not are there any limitations ? I really don`t wana jump into a 3 year degree and end up with no other options . My main goal is teaching , so do universities accept this degree as a PHD ? Thanks

- Only a few schools offer the DPS (Doctorate of Professional Studies). It is technically equivalent to a PhD but will not be treated as such at many places -- the program is shorter and likely less rigorous. The DPS is meant for people late in their industry career who want another degree to help with their career. It is not meant to prepare professors; it is completely focused on industry and practice. If you want to teach, you need a PhD. However, this shouldn't be much of an issue...I think only 5 or 6 schools offer a DPS or anything similar to it.
