I was recently dismissed from my doctoral program due to not finishing my dissertation in the required time?
I was recently dismissed from my doctoral program due to not finishing my dissertation in the required time. I had been given an extension, but still was unable to complete it. I had a 3.7 GPA. Is it possible for me to complete my requirements at another institution or is that impossible I have completed all coursework. I've completed my doctoral internship and all other requirements, but the dissertation.

- Another school might accept you as a transfer student. In that case, don't expect them to accept all of your completed coursework. However, repeating several courses and finishing in a year might be better than not finishing at all.
- You may contact the head of the Department indicating your difficulty in not completing the dissertation and that you have completed all other formalities and coursework. If your unconditional apology may be considered by the authority concerned and thereby you may probably be given some more extension for submitting the dissertation and can have your doctorate degree. Try to do this. Best wishes for a bright future.
- If you are able to find another PhD program that will take you - and you are high risk, because you can't seem to complete your dissertation - you may need to basically start the PhD program over. Very little of your work will likely "transfer". You'll very likely have to do at least a year of coursework in your new PhD program, and then pass comps again. But you'll need to negotiate this with your new department. I've never heard of anyone transferring so far into their PhD program, personally; but that doesn't mean it can't be done. You'll need to talk to the programs you're targeting and see how they feel. I think your best bet is to formally appeal your dismissal from your PhD program, and see if you can convince them to let you come back.
