Why are black women now receiving more college degrees than black men?
Black men consistantly held the majority of degrees until the 90's, the something happened. Now there is a large gap between black women and men with women holding the majority of college degrees.

- We want to learn?
- Too many are in jail. Hard to learn when you're in jail.
- because now more women are going to college as opposed to staying home. women tend to be stiffer and more uptight in their own way, so they are great when it comes to education (in my opinion)
- More black women want to do something with their lives than black men.
- because they want to succed in life. Have a better future and make more money and have a better life. great news for the black community.
- There are more women in general nowadays than men for some reason.
- Maybe because theres MORE black women population wise than black men. That would make sense right?? Some goes for white women receiving more college degrees than white men and as well the asian women doing the same with asian men. It's because theres more of them so of course they would be getting more degrees compared to their men..
- Black women are tired of depending on a man. They realized they need to be just as good, or if not better, than a man. They need to take care of the kids that some of the black fathers refuse to take care of. Oh, and BLACK WOMEN HAVE GOALS TOO.
- That is because there are more black women then Black men....Also some people realize you do not need a degree to be successful...People think "success" always comes with a degree....It isn't always like that. People always talk about how many black men are in jail...Well their is many of us who work in jails...making 60-85 g's a year..My cousin being one of these men. Its funny you people bring things like this up..I like arguing with self haters. Come out come all
- They are more dedicated to school.
- Men are more likely to take riskier post highschool options such as: joining the military, going straight to work, joining a family business, pursuing athletic or entertainment opportunities or even starting a business. Companies often regard real life experience as valuable - in some cases more valuable than college "book" education. Women see this as more risky because it's harder for us to complete education later in life - since we're likely to be primary caregivers for any kids. For us, getting college over with is important to prevent major lifelong drops in potential salaries. I also think that guys are more likely to encourage each other to take those riskier choices because if they succeed, it's possible to make money faster.
- Although this question is concerning black people specifically, it holds true through all races. When given increasingly equal opportunities, women tend to do better academically and are more motivated during the process than men.
