In general does the North have better postsecondary education than the South?

In the south especially out of North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Virginia, Auburn, and Clemson they are not that much top 30-50 schools. University of South Carolina, University of Arkansas, University of Kentucky, University of Alabama, University of Tennessee, University of Mississippi, and LSU are not as elite as a Notredame, Perdue, U Mich, U Wisconsin, U Iowa, Ivy League schools, Northwestern, Univ of Illinois, and Univ of Minnesota

6. You included Northern private schools (Ivy League) but not Southern ones (Vanderbilt, Duke). That's not really a fair comparison. There is probably a difference because Northern universities generally have better funding, but it's not as huge as people sometimes act. Most people really don't care where you got a degree from as long as it was from an accredited school.
7. You can't be general when it comes to Education. There are so many different types of Degrees that saying one Region is better than the other is quite hard to do. There are 3 Undergraduate Business School that are Top 10 that are in the South. Also, 4 Overall Universities in the South are Top 25. Education is geared towards what's helpful in the Region.
8. States in the northeast established institutions of higher learning much sooner than the South, so they had a head start on them. The truth is that universities in the South are rapidly catching up to the North. This is due mostly to the decline of populations and economies in northeast states, and the relative rise of the South. Other than the Ivy League the schools are overall much closer than many think. For example, the almost all southern Atlantic Coast Conference has the best academics of any major conference, with the northern Big 10 2nd.
