Is college only worth it for certain degrees?
The media frequently covers all these graduates that majored in humanities or arts degrees and how much they're struggling. I'm just wondering if college is only worth it for certain degrees. It seems that any college degree in the past was valuable but now employers are picky about what kind of degrees they will accept. Is college only worth it for certain degrees?

- You can do well with any college degree, but don't just pick one at random. Have a clear plan for how you'll use that degree to get the job you want. Many people just major in something that interests them, or something easy, and that's fine if you don't need a degree to get a job. But if you do, and most people do, then you really have to plan ahead for what you'll do with the degree you get, and how you're most likely to get that job (high grades, internships, work experience, etc).
- its only worth it to BORROW for certain degrees.... if you have the cash to pay for everything up front, then you have no problems.
- Employers pick degrees that are actually related to the field that they're in. That's not something new. The purpose of college is to prepare you for a job in a specific field. The issue is that a lot of fields don't have a lot of jobs. When employers list a job that requires any degree, that's just a legal way of discriminating against younger and immature people, you won't actually need any of the skills you learned in college in a job like that. Whether college is worth it depends on what you want. If you want a high paying job, then an English degree will be a waste of money. If you want to teach English in a high school, then it's basically the only possible path.
