Postsecondary education?

What should be the purpose of postsecondary education in the United States? Should the primary focus be a liberal education (that is a college diploma that indicates a person knowledge on certain things, and abilities etc) -- as it currently is. Or should Americans seek other models of the relationship among education, learning, and the knowledge and skills that are needed to keep a job in an increasingly globalized economy?

1. I definitely think that people should really need to learn how to keep a job without being fired in a globalized economic recession. Things are unfortunately worsening. President Obama needs to be out of office. We need an in the middle class president as a start to get out of this mess, and then take it from there.
