Anyone gotten into a Doctoral program after receiving BA from online university?

Working on my BA is Psychology at an online university and would like to eventually go for my PsyD. Wondering how difficult it is to get into a Doctoral program with BA from online school?

  1. A master's degree is almost ALWAYS required before getting into a PsyD program. you need a master's before getting an "earned doctorate." You can still go into a trade school doctorate program with just a bachelor's though. (like to become a lawyer, doctor, or pharmacist. but I don't think a psychologist falls under that category.)
  2. If I may be quite frank with you - depending on how far along you are in your bachelors, if a PsyD is your goal, you want to consider transferring to a reputable school - one that is not a for-profit. And don't get your PsyD from an online program, or from a for-profit school. From my knowledge, that would make you unemployable in many states. Unlicensable. Be cautious re: appropriate accreditation and the rules re: being able to practice in your state.
  3. Missy is not correct; many doctoral programs do allow students to enter with only a bachelor's degree. Having said that, an online degree, particularly one from a for-profit university, will not get you into a reputable doctoral program. Graduate schools recognize that most for-profit schools offer degrees that are largely meaningless, and therefore are not interested in wasting time dealing with students who may not have the skills necessary to succeed in a high-level academic environment. Don't get an online degree; go to a real university. It may take you a little longer but the degree will be recognized and respected in many more situations. The only doctoral program you will be able to get into is another online program, and those programs are not recognized by most reputable academic or professional organizations.
