What should I do about my level of education and my desire for a job in CA?

Here's my situation. I'm 26 and a software developer living in CO. However, I have an embarrassing academic background (associate's from Westwood College). This is a result of my ignorance and lack of research when I made the decision when I was 18. The school sucked, but I made the best of it and was fortunate to find a job after getting a two-year degree and to perform well enough to make a good salary (80k) where I live, and am debt free. However, it seems this is going to come back to bite me, as I now want to move to San Francisco and look for another job as my company was bought out by a large corporation and things are heading south. My concern is that California obviously has fierce competition (think Google). Credits from Westwood will transfer nowhere. Should I go back to school (6yrs)? I hate the idea of spending lots of time & money (especially while in a demanding career) to prove I deserve a B.S. when I've spent so much time on self study and proven myself in other ways

  1. Well, start applying and interviewing and see if you can get a job someplace without a 4 year degree. Try to convince them that your experience is more important than any degree. If that doesnt work, then i guess you'll have to go back to school. In your case, only do that if you have no other job opportunities.
